2610 &looking back.

When I entered this class in late August, I was nervous. With this being intro to design as well as illustration, I was anxious about my lack of drawing abilities. As the classes went on, I enjoyed learning that I wasn't going to draw everything and that my design was at my discretion. Being more at ease, I learned that many designs and layouts are not as daunting as I had imagined; this made starting or diving in less of an ordeal for me. Things like using the tablets to put doodles (the extent of my drawing abilities) in my projects & against my photos were pretty exciting when they all came together. I think more than anything I've found the ability to start--which is a problem for me. Having perfectionist tendencies, I tend to not start if I don't believe that I can output my idea exactly the way I want it in the end. Being able to start is huge; it's the beginning of everything else, and now that's a possibility.

So, here's to the beginning!

Zine: How To

For my Zine I think I want to hit the topic of Communication.

It seems to me that even with all the technology that allows people to communicate ideas, concepts and feels almost instantaneously that people are still not getting their point across. Communication is a necessary life skill; it is also necessary in art and design.

I feel like Communication may be a very large topic for such a small Zine--like trying to write a thesis paper in 2 pages. So hopefully I can narrow down what type of communication or what setting of communication (like only e-mail or only communicating with your significant other.) Either way, here are some images that are pretty vanilla that I have looked at.

Don't fret; I'm sure there's more to come.

Poster--Final

Poster projects are done and mounted in the hallway! Above is the way I started out with the poster, but decided against it. Bellow is how is the design that I turned in. The photo was taken by myself. I had a book from the library for my "inspiration" but sadly it is returned and checked out again (not by me.) I was just enjoying the mixture of both hand drawn text mingled with regular fonts. Figuring out how to mount on foam-core was an interesting event as well, ha!

Public Service Poster

Class is moving forward (as it should,) and we are taking out new found interest in hand typography to heart. I am doing my public service poster as something ironic. I picked Mac obsession (aka "MacHeads"). I am a Apple user myself, but some people have gone too far. This is an ode to them. Ha!

I'm having a hard time with my topic choice; however, because of Apple's minimalist marketing strategy, I am finding it difficult to entertain the idea of multiple layers and blends. Which is a problem... because that's... the assignment. lol.

Here's something I played around with earlier. Still not sure if it will make the final cut though.

Enjoy.
